„Usually I am an Painter but today i got dressed!“

Jason Rohr (*1999, Hausen AG), lebt und arbeitet in Zürich. Der junge Kunstschaffende Jason Rohr beschäftigt sich mit der Reproduzierbarkeit von Materialität durch Technologie und mit der Frage, wie diese die Figur des Künstlers beeinflusst. In seinem Versuch, die Künstler*in zu entmystifizieren, sucht er nach den Sackgassen und Fallen der Kultur früher Zeiten und verbindet diese mit gegenwärtigen Kulturphänomenen. Visuell lässt er Formen durch Medien und (Un-)Materialitäten schallen. Jason Rohr ist ein hervorragender Maler, der sich an die Grenzen des Mediums heranwagt und diese lustvoll überschreitet.

An der Wand des StudioK3 hängt, aufgespannt auf einen Keilrahmen eine Leinwand. Ein grosses, kreuzförmiges Stück des Originalgemäldes wurde allerdings herausgeschnitten und dient der Kleiderpuppe im Schaufenster als modisches Hemd. Auf dem anderen Schaufenster ist in krakeliger pinker Schrift zu lesen: „Usually I am an artist but today i got dressed!“ Durch das Herausschneiden des Hauptmotivs aus der Leinwand wird das Repräsentierende zum Repräsentierten und hinterlässt an der Wand ein abstraktes Werk.

„Eigentlich habe ich ein Bandshirt einer Band gemacht, die es gar nicht gibt. In der Anhäufung kultureller Symbole und Aesthetiken, interessieren sich Produzent:innen und Konsument:innen immer weniger für die Bewegungen oder die sozialen/wirtschaftlichen Bedürfnisse, welche diese hervorgebracht haben. Kids kaufen sich Bandshirts, von Bands von denen sie noch nie einen Song gehört haben“. Jason Rohr

*1999, Hausen AG, lives and works in Zurich. The young artist Jason Rohr is concerned with the reproducibility of materiality through technology and with the question of how this influences the figure of the artist. In his attempt to demystify the artist, he searches for the dead ends and traps of culture in earlier times and connects them with contemporary cultural phenomena. Visually, he makes forms resound through media and (im)materialities. Jason Rohr is an outstanding painter who dares to explore the limits of the medium and transgresses them with relish.

On the wall of StudioK3 hangs a canvas on a stretcher frame. A large, cross-shaped piece of the original painting has been cut out, however, and serves as a fashionable shirt for the dress mannequin in the shop window. On the other shop window, the words "Usually I am an artist but today i got dressed!" are written in spidery pink lettering. By cutting the main motif out of the canvas, the representend becomes the representing, leaving an abstract work on the wall.

"Actually, I made a band shirt of a band that doesn't exist. In the accumulation of cultural symbols and aesthetics, producers and consumers are less and less interested in the movements or the social/economic needs that created them. Kids are buying band shirts of bands they've never heard of" Jason Rohr.
