STATEMENT BY ANTOINE FELIX BÜRCHER

STUDIOK3: 31.8.2024 - 14.9.2024

Antoine Félix Bürcher,*1999, based in Zürich (CH). His work is conceptual, focusing on sculpture, memory and form through a pluri-disciplinary practice. As installations, the works offer glimpses of possible future or past lives. His research generates fictional worlds and initiates a reflection on time and a ‘non-linear’ aesthetic, in which the conception of our current reality, and in particular its durability and ephemeral nature, inevitably, take centre stage. Bürcher’s glass sculptures reveal unexplored landscapes in which figurative relics are entangled in an anachronistic vision between future, past and present. In the molecular sense, the vitreous state is a particular state of matter, neither solid nor liquid, an in-between. Glass is collected by the artist in a multiplicity of places and contexts and then fused into moulds. The result is a transfer of materials, forms and a multitude of contained histories.

Myriam Gämperli, solo position

March/ April 2023

Myriam Gämperli *1982 Bettenau, Jonschwil / lives and works in Zurich and St. Gallen.

Myriam Gämperli's work is in the surrealist tradition of arrangement. The tongue-in-cheek mixture of the recognisable and the unfamiliar is what makes her productions so charming. As part of the exhibition, the video work "Im Kreissaal der Einzelwesen" Videoarbeit von Myriam Gämperli und Andy Storchenegger will be presented.

Paul Harper solo position

Paul Harper (*1974, London), Lives and works in Lüneburg / Germany

February / March 2023

"My current work explores the relationships between architecture, digital media, and the history of (abstract) painting, and how we relate to these. I am concerned with how these different, but not unconnected areas intersect, and the ways in which we inhabit, navigate, and experience both real and virtual spaces. My images incorporate elements of common structures, objects, and images, found in industrial, public, corporate or online spaces, environments which we pass by or through on a daily basis, either virtually or in reality."

Jason Rohr solo position

Lives and works in Zurich

2nd December 2022 - 24th January 2023

*1999, Hausen AG, lives and works in Zurich. The young artist Jason Rohr is concerned with the reproducibility of materiality through technology and with the question of how this influences the figure of the artist. In his attempt to demystify the artist, he searches for the dead ends and traps of culture in earlier times and connects them with contemporary cultural phenomena. Visually, he makes forms resound through media and (im)materialities. Jason Rohr is an outstanding painter who dares to explore the limits of the medium and transgresses them with relish.

Hannah Parr solo position

4th November – 29th November 2022

As a sculptor, Hannah Parr often works with wood. Her mosaic-like works, however, also make references to painting, an early medium that has contributed to her sculptural methodology. The artist starts from the found material of used construction site barricade slats. Fascinated by their function to delimit or mark a border and high-contrast signal code, she transforms these used functional objects into artworks that can be viewed as sculptural paintings.

Patric Sandri + Adam Thompson

June 2022-July 2022

In his works Patric Sandri explores the medial and formal conditions of painting, space and sculpture, with which he explores the discourse of perception and seeing, Each work begins with a systemic principle defined by the artist. Based on the spatial conditions, he defines the relationship of the central recurring components of his works to each other - wood, fabric, and the primary colours yellow, red, blue - in every detail of the execution up to positioning in the room.

In his highly reduced works which hover between wall scultpures and paintings, Thompson renounces the visibility of the painterly-craftsmanly act. He reduces the brushstrokes to the absolute minimum: formally and in terms of colour and texture. The shiny coloured surfaces, framed in canvas, still allude to the artist's origins in figurative oil painting.
